I’m ready for another great week in reading class!
Monthly Reading Reflection
We will be going to the library this week, so please remind your child to return their book on Tuesday. The January Reading Reflection is due on February 4th.
Arizona Coyote Reading Program
Students should be reading at least 20 minutes every day and recording those minutes in their Coyote log.
Word Masters Challenge
We have begun the weekly Word Masters Challenge this month. Each week students are given an analogy to solve in their Google Classroom. Through these analogies, students are not only learning meanings to new words, but also developing critical thinking skills. Students have until Thursday to answer the question for a chance to receive a “Spot On.”
Comprehension: Drawing Conclusions
Drawing conclusions can sometimes be confused with inferencing. Students have learned that authors don’t always explained everything in a story. We have to use the clues they give us along with our own background knowledge to make an inference. On the other hand, drawing conclusions uses the inferences to find the big idea in the story.
The entire third grade will begin the novel study of In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. This engaging story will also allow us to explore different cultures while also expanding our vocabulary. It will also be supporting our reading comprehension skills.
