Reading Update: Dec. 9th – 13th

Welcome to another busy week in Reading! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Monthly Reading Reflection

There is no Reading Reflection due in December. The next one will be going home after winter break. Also, because of DIBELS testing this week, we will not be visiting the library.

Winter Book Exchange Red Carpet Extravaganza

I wanted to thank everyone who has donated books for the Winter Book Exchange that is happening on December 19th. I know that the students will love receiving a “new” book to read over the break. We will be accepting gently used books through this Thursday, December 12th, so it’s not too late to send them in.

I still need a few volunteers that day around 1:30 to help set-up the red carpet and books. Please let me know if you are available to help.

Button Day is Coming!

This Friday is the 2nd Quarter Button Day! I’m looking forward to handing out the new buttons the students have earned this quarter.

Arizona Coyote Reading Program

As of December 1st, the entire third grade has read 127,195 minutes!! Way to go third grade!

Mrs. Lorenz’s homeroom class had the highest amount of minutes read in November with over 20,000 and earned the extra recess. Great job Mrs. Lorenz’s class! The top students from each homeroom class were Nathaniel, Alyssa, Olivia, and Leyton who combined for over 8,000 minutes! Thank you for encouraging your child with their daily reading. It does make a difference.

Curriculum Focus:

This Tuesday the students will be taking their mid-year DIBELS tests. Also, on Thursday, they will be taking the Reading Inventory that determines their new Lexile levels.

We will continue to focus on inferences this week by completing some special Inferencing Challenges.

This Week:

  • Tuesday – DIBELS testing
  • Thursday – Reading Inventory Test (Lexile Test)
  • Friday – Button Day!

Upcoming December Reading Dates:

  • December 19th – Winter Book Exchange
  • January 9th – December Coyote Minutes Due

Happy Reading!
